About Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a type of dental restoration that may be used to treat a range of conditions affecting a tooth. Commonly referred to as "caps," dental crowns cover the visible portion of teeth and can both strengthen and protect damaged tooth structure. The general dentists at ACE Dental of Temple offer dental crowns to treat moderate tooth decay, cracks, and other forms of damage. Crowns offer a durable biting function and can return a natural shape and appearance to the teeth. As an effective prosthodontic solution, crowns can also be attached to single dental implants to complete tooth replacement procedures. If you have a damaged tooth, book a consultation at our Temple, TX location to learn if a crown can improve your oral health and complete your smile!

Is a Crown Right for You?
At ACE Dental of Temple, we often treat minor restorative needs with simple dental fillings. But a crown may be indicated if greater tooth damage has occurred. We may place crowns in the front and back of the mouth to rebuild or enhance:
- Teeth with large or aging fillings
- Moderately decayed teeth
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Worn, misshapen, or discolored teeth
- Teeth that have been root canal treated
- Individual dental implants
- Dental bridges for tooth replacement
Dental crowns may be fabricated of all-porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, and all-metal (such as gold) materials. When you visit our team for your consultation, we will talk with you about your options and help you choose the material that best suits your budget, needs, and treatment goals.
What Is the Treatment Process?
Dental crowns are completed over two office visits, in most cases. To begin, one of our dentists will numb your mouth and eliminate the damaged or decayed tooth structure. We may also administer nitrous oxide sedation if you feel anxious about receiving dental treatment. After your tooth has been treated, our team will take a digital iTero impression of the area, which will allow us to accurately customize the size, shape, and fit of your restoration. A temporary crown will then be placed to protect your tooth while your crown is created in a dental lab. We will schedule you to come back about 1 – 2 weeks later to have your temporary removed and your new crown bonded to your tooth or connected to a dental implant previously inserted in your jaw.
Caring for Your Crown
Your crown will be adjusted as needed for an even, comfortable bite. Instructions on how to best care for your restoration will be given to you by our clinical team. It is vital to brush and floss well each day, as the underlying tooth is still susceptible to decay. In the event your crown comes off or feels loose, it is best to let our team repair it rather than attempting to do so on your own (as this can damage your tooth or crown). We will monitor the condition of your restoration and tooth during your routine dental visits at our Temple, TX practice. When they receive proper care and attention, dental crowns may last for years.
Are Crowns Covered by Insurance?
Dental crown restorations are commonly covered in part by a number of dental insurance plans. To help you get the most from your coverage, our skilled insurance specialists will review your plan and advocate on your behalf. ACE Dental of Temple is pleased to accept an array of affordable payment options to help you conveniently cover any out-of-pocket costs. A member of our staff can also help you explore other budget-friendly options, including low-interest medical financing.
