Her dental education began in Mumbai, India, where she earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Nair Hospital Dental College. She then pursued a Master’s in Public Health at Kent State University in Ohio, followed by an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Dr. Sonkar completed her periodontal residency and Master of Science in Periodontics at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Sonkar’s clinical expertise includes advanced periodontal surgery, osseodensification (DENSAH®), laser-assisted therapy, conscious sedation, and All-on-4® implant procedures. She is an active researcher, peer reviewer for dental journals, and national lecturer. Her numerous accolades include prestigious awards from the American Academy of Periodontology and the ADEA Faculty of Color Scholarship.
